Hey guys, I'm pretty new on Polycount but here's some WIP images for a pudge set I'm working on atm. ANy comments/feedback would be great and much appreciated! Thanks!

That's a really cool idea! And well executed too.

Like you said though, i guess the weapons stick out way too far. Woulf probably spoil the silhouette.

Update of the back weapons with a slightly smaller scale and roughed in gradient ramps to get an approximation of the blood stains on the blades.

Any thoughts on the current scale of the weaps stabbing him in the back? I've been tweaking these for way too long and some fresh eyes would be great

Scale looks much better now. Realistically speaking though, surely the kunai should be much smaller than those swords :P Though i get that they have more interesting shapes

Yeh you're right actaully. I've been having headaches with trying to get a nice read on the back slot. It looks really horrible when viewed with pudge's back facing you.


Think I'm going to scrap the idea of the swords sticking out and go with something more readable that better compliments his silhouette

Try arrows instead? I feel that robe kinda pushes Pudge a bit too far out of his theme. The rest made sense even though its Japanese since its still things you would find on a battlefield.

The problem with arrows and anything sticking out of his back is that it only looks good from the front and the side. As soon as you start looking at him from behind, the long thin shapes get lost in the intricate texture of his back.

Also having stuff stick out his back could also conflict with spells like QOP's poison dagger.

Looking through all the submissions for pudge, I've also noticed anything that deviated too much from his original silhouette don't tend to get accepted.

I gotta say, I really like the swords better than the robe. Even if it doesn't look exceptional from the one angle from straight back, I think the fact that it's visually distinct and fresh gives it enough merit to stand on its own and overcome that issue.

Yeah, I agree with Spud. I think conceptually, the idea that he's been skewered with all these weapons and is still walking around rotting and hooking people is what is interesting about this idea. I'm not so keen on the robe, though I guess if you could do a combination of the 2 (would take a ton of poly pinching i'd guess) that might be even better.

I really like the idea too but the shitty silhouette from the back bugs me alot. I think i'll try fleshing out the other slots first then might pick a few swords and stick them near his shoulders so they look more vertical. On another note, found out some neat light baking tricks in 3dsmax. Will do a write-up/tute soon as Valve includes point light baking in their texturing guides but don't explain how they do it.

Some progress update on my pudge set. Some ingame tests of the back, hook and hair slots filled in.

Think the hook/sickle model still needs to be roughed up abit as it looks too clean to be a pudge weapon atm.

Quite sad the texture size is so low for the back slot TT^TT



I've also started sculpting his left arm. The initial idea was to have a thick rope wrapping his whole arm but the scale got too out of hand and it was messing up the read on pudge's silhouette.



Went for a slightly smaller rope that fastens some sort of leather hand guard and I think it's turned out okay so far.

I agree about the size of the rope. The leather is a nice addition but really push that rope!
