Hi polycounters. For my first post I thought I would whip up a simple object with the aim of texturing practice. It is meant to be a fairly new box that's been sitting on the shelf for a little while. Constructive Criticism always welcome.
p.s let me know if this post is in the wrong thread

My only crit is that you should push the spec in the tape. When you look at boxes with that clear tape, it is pretty shiny, although it might be your lighting, considering it is kinda flat. Also, the ends of the tape are kinda too perfect, it looks like someone cut it with scissors. Just a super minor detail.
Looking good though.
I'm just looking at dDo and it looks like it makes our life scarcely easy for texturing. I feel like its cheating in a way but a massive time saver.
And Shipping environments aren't just billowing with dust, so if "a while" means "a day or so while being processed/waiting for a truck" then it won't have accumulated much of any dust.
If you want it to be post-shipment, then dent up the edges and corners with minor wrinkling in the middle. Possbily some more black/deep charcoal dirt on the bottom and corners from being transfered between rollers, trucks, and shelves.
Most boxes aren't horribly mistreated, but just get a bit dinged due to normal handling of thousands of packages at once.
Tape ends are fine for a professionally packed package. The hard edges to tape are the short ends of the flaps. Getting the tape to fold just right around the corner is always tough.

@Yaniv - I have to admit that crossed my mind when I first started this project. luving the weapons btw
@Vailias - Cheers for the info, always happy to receive some life source feed back. My plan so far was to add some more dirt to the bottom and corners (maybe the top, just a little) and then look into the denting. I might just add some crease's instead of full on dents. I'm guessing the dirt on the bottom would be overall with a bit of streaks..
Ok, so I've added a bit more ware & tare, including a bit of dirt. Still having trouble making the tape pop on the specular. Any ideas? Could be my lighting setup?
