I completely agree about the spec. That's partly why I want to add some more blast impacts and large scale scratch damage, especially on the cockpit.
Lighting may be playing a part, but there are some large flat surfaces there that look a bit samey at the moment, and more spec variation could help punch it up a bit.
Started to create a diorama setting for this a couple of weeks ago, but only just got round to posting.
It's supposed to be a Dagobah swamp.
Currently the AT-ST doesn't really sit well against the background and I'm not sure where I'm going with this now :S.
I think perhaps the lighting is muting the spec on the metal as I currently have a skylight as well as the directional. I'm not a lighting artist and am not really sure where to go with this.
Any feedback or suggestions are very welcome as I've kind of stalled and it's not coming together.

Edit/ the detailing and spec look great in that first shot, but the detail is lost in the others. Perhaps its your lighting?

I need to create some kind of plinth or something and pose it up.

You can also increase the amount of brown in the trunks, and reduce the green of the fog.
