Finished up the textures. I'm happy with how it came out. Stuck it in Marmoset for a quick render.
I'm not sure I'll be making any big changes to him since I should probably be doing other uni stuff, but I'd really like to hear how I could improve.
It really bugs me that he has such straight lines. Play around with modeling out his silhouette more. I made breaks in the barrel wood to break up that horizontal line at his neck.
Great work, I really like the painted look. The only things that I could suggest are adding a gloss map to set off some of the details and make him look less flat.
I agree with DougCLayton. Either that or paint in a direct light source. Also, i'd play with the saturation levels of your highs and lows. It will make it look a little more Bling Bling!
Thanks for the feedback! I tried adding a spec and gloss map - this is actually the first time I've ever tried :O. I also played a bit with the saturation in my highs and lows. I think I may have overdone it a bit, but he definitely looks a lot more interesting now.
Looking good! Be creative with the specular color map, using colors with more contrast and complementary colors also helps to give the impression of depth.
I definitely want to experiment a lot more with the specular colour map, I had a quick look at one of the marmoset material tutorials and tried to replicate some of what they did but obviously not as well. Should really be moving on to other work at the moment though so he might stay this way for now unfortunately.

If I get some more time to work on him I'll definitely give that a try.
