Tried looking to see if there is a thread like this, but there isn't so...
Would be interesting to see what things other artists struggle on and what others find easy etc.
Guwonnn name your weakness within the 3d world.
Example here is one of mine:
Female faces, I always struggle to make a pretty looking girl

I think a lot of the techniques just pop in and out of my head for it.
Kinda need to get out of the habbit if i'm ever to move from CG to games...
Here's a few off the top of my head:
- I suck at Facial Anatomy. #1 priority for me.
- My Brush stroke sucks.
- I have too many stylistic 'habits' I need to break.
- I suck at Rendering. REALLY suck at rendering. I need to learn this shit yesterday. Same goes for lighting.
- I wish I were better at drawing.
- I need to become a LOT faster.
- My character design sense needs work.
- I need to experiment more with my workflow. Try new programs and methods.
This is a huge ass growing list BTW.
Need to draw and study female form much more than I do, and do many more figurative sculpts focusing on small areas of the body.
Texture definition, I feel like a lot of my textures don't read as the materials I want them to as much as I'd like.
Sculpting in Zbrush or Mudbox is a big one for me, as the places I've worked at haven't been able to get those programs for me, and I haven't taken the time at home to really learn them as well as I should.
Realistic lighting for rendered images, so not real time based apps. I WISH I could pull off some of the hyper realistic images I see in other people's architecture pieces, but I have a long way to go.
So many more, lol.

also my lack of interest in anything i suck at..........
Some what of a weakness (It varies) is Texturing. I'm in a bit of a knowledge gamble atm between experimenting with syncing texture methods from paint and photo-sourcing.
Of course, anatomy. The forever learning experience. Specifically been working eyes.
And going faster is always good too!
- ZBrush. Moving around in ZBrush and doing anything other than sculpting on top of a base mesh or doing textures gives me trouble.
- Normal baking with really complex shapes
:poly142:
Ditto.
yep, I'm at a point where I need to decide to just slog away at learning it or focus on something else like concept art (yay, art!) or programming (as dull as next gen but more $$$$). Or maybe I'll just end up eventually enjoying it like avocados or roller coasters.
It's been about 20 years since I made some stuff on RSD Game-Maker, maybe I'll give it another go.
Since drawing is pretty much all I'm doing right now,
-perspective and foreshortening
-dynamic poses
-shadows replacing line-forms
oh and one I think needs mentioning for probably a whole lot of us:
the blank page
Human Anatomy and Proportion - Learning this in my figure painting class
Practicing - I'm so exhausted after class projects, that I normally don't want to practice personal projects
Practicing Efficiently - When I do practice, I normally dilly daddle.
Excuses - I can always find an excuse to not practice, then I'm disappointed when the results show.
Drawing from imagination - I can draw most things from observation, but imagination is a whole new beast I need to conquer.
Spreading myself to thin - I often take on big assignments for class projects, this leaves me spending most of my time on them (I take two painting classes atm, and it gets time consuming). I need to learn to take on things I can handle, while staying fresh and new (although tackling projects you know are beyond your abilities is useful in some cases I guess).
I could type this list on forever...
Oh and Kryptonite... friggin hate those
ps..
YARRRRR it will all be skippy like scurvy in the end.. yarrrrrr *pokes his parrot*
- *SKWAAAAWK!!!! Boil em in oil, boil em in oil!*
tis after all talk like a pirate day!
Absolutely this. It's always a fun kick in the ass when you realize you're a little over your head on something. This always lasts until either a.) I open the file the next day and realize all the shitty mistakes I've been making or b.) Start working on something I think will be easy only to have it eat me alive. Ah well, learning experience.
I would say right now my weakness is anatomy and character art in general. Much as I love environment art and props I've always been jealous of people that can just rock out with characters.
Complex Hard Surface Shapes: WHY MUST IT ALWAYS PINCH! WHY?!
Texturing: I could always get better at making materials in photoshop.
Nuanced Details: Sometimes I gloss over the tiny stuff and it does add up.
Baking: Did I mention this? I'm terrible at it.
Hair: It's almost always a chore to place hair cards, and make somewhat believable hair.
Focus: When I'm not locked in everything seems twice as hard, and takes twice as long, and with half of much work that needs to be done.
That being said, I could always use more anatomy, more likeness study, more understanding of pipelines, but I'm more comfortable diving into anatomy studies than I am baking normal maps.
