Id like you to meet Ethan Coldridge a PI from the 1950s alternative version of Chicago and a hero of the Shades of black. While investigating what seemed to be a simple case, he discovers a city wide (or at least he thinks so) conspiracy and starts a little digging on the side and so his story begins.
The city he lives in differs from the 50s Chicago we knew in a couple of ways since there was no WWII the technological progress went further making some twisted turns. Ethans story is heavily inspired by the noir styled movies, atmosphere of an old science fiction and diesel punk novels, settings like Blade runner and such.
Under the hood Shades of black is a non typical TPS with weapons and gear customization, mostly cover based shootouts, NPC dialogues and interactions, quests and a bunch of other adventure/RPG elements. The game makes emphasis on the fluent and stylish gunplay, strong immersive atmosphere that puts player right into the heart of the story and helps empathize Ethan along the way. If I had to describe this game in one sentence it would be A kind of DE:HR like mechanics in alternative 50s with significantly less stealth and progression accents in a slightly different way
Currently Shades of black is in the concept creation stage (though some minor visual assets are done) and most of all it needs visualization. That calls for:
- concept artists
- 2D/3D artists (CryEngine experience is more than welcome)
- animators (CryEngine experience is more than welcome)
Main requirements for these positions are:
- share the overall vision and games world atmosphere (Shades of black has a kind of setting and atmosphere that you either love or cant stand theres no in betweens)
- ability to dedicate at least 5 hours during the working week and a certain amount of time on weekends (theres no intention to make a never ending story out of this project the prototype must be ready in reasonable terms)
- good communication skills
As for the skills required 2D concept creation, 3D Max modeling, animation, texturing, CryEngine3 (or UDK) expertise.
Currently the project is unpaid and it will remain in this status until the end of the prototype/demo stage. Since its impossible to make such game on raw enthusiasm the full scale development stage will get mandatory financing in one way or another.
