I would like to share with you my work done on World of Warcraft as texture artist for the new patch "Siege Of Orgrimmar".
I used Zbrush to create my textures and I also work on the loading screen, some concepts art and icons.
Hope you'll enjoy it !
The sculpts, texture work, concepts and icons are really fantastic. Love the way you approached the hand painted WoW style by using zbrush sculpts as a base. Really gives each piece a lot of depth and seemingly added crispness to the textures. I would of course love to see a breakdown of what you did to create your texture after you had your zscuplt as the textures all came out great.
Always been a big fan of your previous work and your work here dose not disappoint
I thought all wow stuff was only handpainted. But you arent using the normalmap for anything ingame right? Its only a way for you to create the texture right?
Are you the odd one out doing the wow stuff this way or are you guys transfering into this kind of workflow?
Im a huge fan of the wow artstyle and its really cool to see how much it has been pushed to the next level in mist.
Looking forward to the vertex article.
Again: Really nice stuff
Really nice stuff! Is zbrush fairly recent workflow for wow textures? (pandaria recent?)
Yup, I've been meaning to try it out. If you can bake AO out of your sculpt, you can paint over that. I could better describe it once I do it a few times :P
Seriously though, these look fantastic and thank you for posting this. I'm a big fan of WoW and it is really cool to see the workflow you're using for these assets.
just a small question : is emissive totally independant from diffuse? we tend to multiply emissive (greyscale) by diffuse to save a few channels, but I guess when you deal with magical assets the emissive often has to be different from the diffuse... is that right?
Great stuff! I followed your making of the floating island & portal a while back as I love the WoW style and thought you were nailing it, turns out you nailed it good

I did a mini tutorial. For a bigger one, you have to wait for the next Vertex magazine

Amazing stuffs, nuff said. Very, very, very inspirational!
Thanks for the little tutorial!
Amazing work!
Do any of the props you've done use normals in game or are you purely just using normals for adding light information to your diffuse?
Ahhhh, now the waiting will feel even longer.:'(
