Building a ninja turtle for a friend of mine who is an animator, and he wants to do some epic ninja turtle animations. Fair enough.
Started last night and this is the blockout I have so far - WIP. Not sure which of the characters it's gonna be yet. Overall we will probably go for an adult-ish, John Constantine-kinda, angry, hardened turtle...if that's even possible.
For main Ninja Turtle source of inspiration and reference we found this material - all credit to the respective owners.
Ye, gonna play more with the head shape for sure, also try to figure out the levels of scaly details etc. I'm still tweaking as I go so it will change a bit I guess.
Hey Bokaja ! Really nice start !
I really love the shell Can't wait to see this done
My only critics may be that he got massive hands and feet but slim shoulder and thigh, which give a kinda inverted shapes to the limb, in my opinion.
Other than that it looks great !
I've been trying build him up as a somewhat believable, athletic fighter, but still have that element of turtle-awkwardness, if you will.
It's one thing I noticed most of the ninja turtle concepts have in common, that key level of odd proportions.
I've build him up around human body proportions, scaled the hands and feet up and played with the size of the torso...and somehow make it look right with the shield, lol.
The new face looks better, but I still think it might need a little of tweaking, especially silhouette in the back of the head, and maybe defining a little bit more the muscle aroud the corner of the mounth.
I did a paintover, maybe I can help a bit
Hey man, I think his arms and legs are extremely long even by human proportions. The thing about turtles that stands out is huge shell and little stumpy legs. Now I know you wanted to make him more athletic and ninja like, but I still think you should dial it down by at least 25 percent.
Also, Its almost as if the shell is right up his ass currently. Like if you think of the thickness of the shell on the inside, there needs to be some space for him to be inside, so basically if you just made the shell a bit bigger and had it sit lower I think it would look more natural.
Also, I would increase the head size a little too.
The details are really awesome, just gotta nail those proportions! Good luck!
Guedin: cool, aye, gonna add more structure to the head.
Tierzilla: Thanks, ye those tones are just a template for now, I'll change it later
BradMyers82: Thanks man, good inputs - and some of the stuff I'm playing with atm. Update on the way soonish!
Srry, I was offline for a while. I got some more time and started adding stuff and updating some texturing...still need to look at final proportions. More to come.

Latest progress - made it all dynamesh and broke it into separate pieces. Still need weapons and a lot of other stuff!
I've been f...... struggling with this model, combining human and turtle dna!
Cheers!
If i have one thought, it would be to make his skin a bit more scaly (sp?) dont over do it, but just in a couple places might be nice

This is the base temp:

Aye, I'll share textures later - this is just zbrush and polypaint for now.
