It might be useful for texturing assets and seeing the changes show up live on the asset with engines that can hotload textures. You could set up a template PSD with folders/groups with the names of the map type (Diffuse.png, Specular.png, Gloss.png, Normal.png) and together with smart objects you could work on all these texture maps at the same time with instancing.
I dont have PS-CC at the moment so I can't test it out, but the update was pushed last night so you guys can play with it right now. Test it out!
I hope this means that nDo and dDo are about to get substantially faster with their previewer...
What do you guys think?

What did you test it with, and was it responsive?

So if it doesn't support TGA, perhaps it's possible for someone to create a plugin to allow it?
I just took a quick look at the source, and it seems very possible. It's all JS, with validators and parsers for layer names and file name extensions, maybe it's as simple as adding .tga to the filters - i don't have CC to test, but if someone does, and wants to tweak generator.
Unless convert.exe doesn't allow for that, that is a bit of a grey, only way to find out is if someone tries it.

actually tidies up after itself if you remove the filetype from the layer too!
