Braiding hair with FiberMesh

Hey guys, I'm curious to know if there are any techniques for adding braids to FiberMesh hair?

I cant quite think of a way other than individually braiding the FiberMesh with the Groom tools. Which feels incredibly long winded and very difficult to achieve a decent result.

I'd "grow" the fibres from some simple underlying pre-braided geometry (see below). Keep each chunk of the underlying mesh as its own subtool so you can get to the awkward bits when grooming the fibres.
