Just wanted to share a concept for Silencer, before it goes into modeling stage!
I am still not sure about the gauntlet blades color, but you would definitely notice them in the game.
While I think the concept is great (very Darksiders-ish which I love), I think you can tone down some of the details below the waist. It gets a bit overly detailed which keeps making my eyes go down too much.
Your concept skills are pretty sick, but I agree with vlad that it feels too much like WoW. The helmet especially feels more like paladin/shaman tier 37 than silencer :P
Thank you for the kind comments and constructive criticism.
I did a low poly and texture test, to check how it will look in the game (faked) before I go into high poly sculpting.
I feel the head is very unrecognisable as silencer, probably even moreso in the portrait. The helmet would really benefit from being open at least slightly I believe- also the purple you've used for crystals is very dark seer.
I cant deny it looks really cool but I think the head slot needs work to make it a silencer item
I would recomend removing the purple cristals from the set , that would clean up the set and make it more dota like
I personally like the silence loggo on the shield
No crystals. I have left the helmet ones as they are the focal point.
I feel, while it is true there are Dark Seer elements, that this model cannot be mistaken for DS.
yep , looks better than with the cristals . You could keep the purple crystals on his head and maybe try a blue gradient coming from the top as a test aswell .
Personally, I like it with the crystals, but it looks cool without. Yeah, it looks WoW-ish, but I kinda don't get that as a criticism. Since's dota's style is derived from WC3, dota and WoW are like art-style brothers to me, or maybe first cousins
I really like this set. My one criticism would be the shield feels very bulky and that doesn't feel like Silencer's thing to me. I would make it a little less deep, especially towards the ground. Just my opinion.
And out of curiosity, do you have normals on your pieces? If you do, are they just hand painted or baked from something?
Yes, I also feel the shield is too thick, I will thin it down, so it feels more like a light weight item.
As for normals, this particular render is just constant shader with only a color map on it.
I have done the high poly sculpt and baked out the normals, but the color map you see here is hand painted. I did, however, bake out an occlusion map from the high poly model.
Looks great man , I would add some hilight to the shoulderpads (the purple area) like you did on the shield; It looks kinda flat now .
The glaive look small imo , you could try scaling that up a bit .
The model looks great but TURN DOWN THE SELF ILLUMINATION. It really bathes the whole thing in a green mist that washes everything out and you lose most of the cool definition!
Looks pretty flat and dim. Chesplate texture looks completely painted on, without any dynamic specs, and overall texture style looks more WoW than D2. Somehow inside of your shield is brighter than the outside and you could also ad some glow on the crystals.
His head looks like it clips with the collar too.
Also, I haven't posted the previous model I did for Team Empire, this time a Slark set, which was also included in the Cannon Fuse chest. http://www.dota2.com/store/itemdetails/10738

Oh, and silence icon is as tacky as silencer items get.

the textures look awesome but i fear it will break as it looks you only painted them but didn't do any geometry to create normalmaps from

gotta love those cristals
I did the concept, promo artwork and color textures.
Davor Ladavac did high/low poly modelling, baking and masks.
