If your distant relative's relative is said to have been around in publishing with contacts somewhere in film industry including someone in Disney, should a newly grad with no contact go after him for help setting up contact?
I don't have a great portfolio, and I just don't feel it's worth chasing down a distant relative I've never heard of for I'm not even sure what kind of help instead of trying to learn more about being a game environment artist.
You could post it here in this thread . Usually people post them in Pimping and Previews for maximum visibility. Easiest thing is to keep it in your signature so it follows all the posts you make.
As for the topic... I would reach out to this contact and at least make yourself known. Admit that you might not be at the right level yet but you are working hard towards that goal. Essentially start building a good relationship now so that when you are ready that person will already know you well.

There are a lot of old 2D works, so I don't like showing it. Would really like to bump them off soon with newer works.
Okay, I will get in touch with this distant relative. Thanks everyone for your input
