Hi everyone !
I started to learn 3d modeling a few months ago. Now I wanna create somethings that can be use in a game engine.
But, I remember I've read somewhere that game engines usually require 1 object per mesh, and the "skeletal meshes" work different than normal meshes.
I don't know what to do with things like : a robot arm need to be rotate 360 degree ( should I separate that arm from the body ? ) or a character with many different glove, shoe, clothing,....
for example : if I wanna create a gun like this one
should I model it 5 separate part like the image bellow in order to animate it correctly ?
I just had modeling skills, nothing about animation or game engines, so please help me
btw: sorry if my english is bad, but I think you guys got the Ideas
Generally for mechanical stuff you want to model the parts separate though for organic stuff (clothes, humans, animals etc) you dont need to as you can paint the weights for the bone influences.
