Is there a way to Ctrl-C, Ctrl-V, keys in the Max time line?
I know I can shift drag a key to clone it, but I have to drag it through a bunch of keys in the time line and it really won't work.
I just want to copy a key, move the time slider and hit paste.
I've searched through the help docs and searched online and so far the only solutions I have found are:
Copy paste time ranges in the dope sheet.
But this is convoluted, cumbersome, and doesn't always work.
Plus you have to select a range of keys (2 or more) and if you have a bunch of tracks to copy/paste it gets weird.
I also get errors when pasting "...keys occur at negative frames." so most of the time it doesn't even work.
Some broken links to a script that some chuggnuts guy wrote a decade ago.
This seems like basic functionality why is this so hard to do? What am I missing?

Personally, I select keys and shift drag. It's faster for duplicating a time range.
If you are trying to Insert Time and push target keys over, you'll need to use the dope sheet.
Its easy to script copying of a single frame - more involved if you want a range
