Sorry, but does anyone know how I can reduce the luminosity on my cleaver? I removed all the alpha channel from mask1, but it still doesn't help, and my mask2 is entirely black, with a white dot on it.

Make the self-illumination mask darker.

Its a tga, and it ha an alpha channel, so it should be 32 bit should't it? Here's a download link

Self-Illum is the Alpha channel, From your file, you have the alpha channel set to white at the moment. Try this:

^ I don't have access to the file, you need to change permissions from 'private' to anyone with the link.
btw how do i edit the alpha channel using gimp?

I know in steam it will render full brightness if you don't have one pixel of white in your black mask. It throws out the alpha.
