How do you make a living as a concept artist or illustrator?

Hi,
My name is Stephen Cooper and I am a freelance concept artist. I am conducting a survey of professional concept artists which I hope will provide useful information for aspiring artists or seasoned professionals alike. IF YOU ARE A PROFESSIONAL CONCEPT ARTIST OR ILLUSTRATOR please take a few minutes, its really quick, simple and all completely anonymous. I will publish the results here in a month or so depending on the response rate.

Interesting results, seems to be about what I expected. The savings stats were rather shocking though, but I imagine many, many other industries/jobs would have similar stats.

Very interesting. The saving didn't surprise me though, when your young, you don't have enough life experience to know to save for all the rainy days to come. You want to go out and have fun, or you want Chinese take out or pizza, instead of cooking something healthy at home.

There seems to be an underlying idea that new people don't make enough to really live and are even willing to be in debt to work in the industry...that's shameful.

It still remains an employers market out there and probably will stay that way for another couple of years.

Heck, I just signed up for low income healthcare at 48 years old with an advanced degree...it's not what I would have imagined my life to be at this age.
