Hey,
I'm currently working on a weapon (almost finished) which has some part which should be glowing. I'm working with 3ds Max 2012, so I used the option under "Rendering -> Effects..." to make a lense effect and then a glow parameter (I assigned the effect to a material ID).
Now it shows up correctly in the rendering, but I can't export it with the .fbx-data and import the effect into Dota 2. The effect is always missing. Also when I import the .fbx into 3ds Max again, the effects are always gone.
I have seen weapons with fire effects, so there must be a way to do that???
Just an example of the lense & glow effect:

Edit: Zip's right and I'm so dumb. Forgot about particle meshes
Just one more thing: How do you make a close up of your weapon like here? Is there a function for that ingame or do you have to do it in 3ds Max/Photoshop?
what about the smoke effect of this item? How can I add such an effect
