This skylight is designed to the scanline renderer with/without light tracer. Its just faster with light tracer.
The way how you can bake ao with MR:
1. Switch to the Mental ray renderer
2. Go to the material editor
3. In the material editor, click to the little box next to the self illuminaton.
4. Put MR Ambient/Reflective Occlusion here, then click to "go to parent", then check in the "color" checkbox next to the self illumination
5. Assign this material to your mesh
6. Go to rendering/environment
7. Set the global lighting level to 0
If you want to customize the Ao settings, open the material editor, again click to the box next to the self illumination, and the setting of the ao will be there.
Settings that are useful to play with : samples (the more samples, the more rendering time),spread (its good to keep low if you are using it on a lowpoly mesh), max distance
