hey everyone. its been a while since ive gone through with any personal work, normally ive just been doodling here n there. i decided to make a new gun. this is the spanish version of the German C96 mauser. they're pretty similar in design but i just liked this one a little bit better.
ive got some grand intentions to include this in a bigger piece, but who knows whether or not i'll do it. anyway just wanted to start a thread for it. let me know if you've got any comments/critiques.
as of now im just going through detailng and cleaning it up so nows the time im most open to changing things.
i am aware there seem to be some pinching/smoothing issues on the bottom of the body of the gun, but those are rendering artifacts i swear.
and a wireframe for those interested

@joeriv: i'll definitely have a render of that once i finish that area. since thats the most unfinished part right now i tried to hide it from this render. to be honest the other side of it is still completely unfinished. itll get there soon though.
nice job man, looks good to me!
Lovely renders... you should post your secrets/method *nudge nudge*
It may be inaccurate, But maybe switch some of the bolts/rivets from the right side to the left? Give it a little more interest than it has atm.
hmmm. maybe. i do agree that it does look a bit plain, and hopefully adding the text to that side cover will help a bit. we'll see.
as for my renders. since ive gotten some requests for quite a while (been doing the same thing, kinda, for about a year now).. i figured id publicly share my file. so here's an example of what a base render will get in the file i use.
so typically i'll import an obj or max file into this scene that i already have set up with lights and cameras. and for the most part its good to just pop in, put into frame, and render. i'll render a separate shaded and AO pass, then combine them in photoshop, adding a levels and color balance adjustment layer.
the astra's psd setup is fairly different as i think i did a bit more with it.. but for now until i get home, i figure i can drop the max file, and i'll make a writeup later that includes my latest psd. but overall, its fairly simple.
