Imac with Cintiq Zbrush brush issues

Is anyone using an iMac OS X Lion with a cintiq? My brush lags bad in zbrush and I've tried a few different drivers, but I can't seem to find a solution anywhere. My cintiq work fine with PS, but it's almost unusable in ZB.

I also have this issue with 3dCoat on a Windows based PC, but everyone at my work has the same issue. Not sure if there is a solution for that one either.

Any advice would be appreciated!

    Hey Penrod!

I don't have a solution for you, but wanted to throw in on this. I'm experiencing the same issues.

Photoshop work is fine, but ZBrush for some reason has a lot of choppiness to the frame rate. I uninstalled, reinstalled drivers. Restarted the machine multiple times. I'm working on an iMac 27" with a 22HD Cintiq. Using ZBrush 4r6.

Two interesting points- using a mouse works great, no frame rate slowing. As soon as I pick the pen up it skips frames or just lags to the point of not being usable as you stated. The other thing, it was working fine 24 hours ago. Haven't installed anything, restated, or done any modifications to the machine. Just literally got home, sat down, and now there is a problem.

You are the only other person I've been able to find on the net with this issue. If I find anything I will be sure to share!

Hey again, so I found a fix for my situation and hopefully it helps you here too!

In ZBrush, go to Preferences>Performance. I adjusted the MaxThreads slider down 2, from 4.

I haven't seen a hit in performance anywhere by decreasing this value, and my pen no longer lags. Unfortunately this doesn't explain why 3dcoat is also having a problem. Another real kicker to this: once I changed the MaxThreads to 2 and back up to 4, the problem never came back. I honestly can't figure that one out. But it's fixed!

Best of luck, these kinds of random issues are always a bummer. Especially when it kills your night of sculpting and art.
