Well this has been a long time coming.
Starting up the sketchbook for my animation work, and any other art stuff I'm getting myself into.
Basically going to try to do as much animation as I can, and make a couple of cool character sets to add to my portfolio.
So starting off, here's an idle animation for a DMC type flashy side scrolling animation set using Drow Ranger as the model.
There's a perspective view as a bonus to get better crit, and a orth-side scroll view as that is what initially the concept came from to do these.
I'm not too stoked about the renders just yet, figuring I've been trying to figure out the best way to show off anims without linking to videos with out looping, so gifs are saving me in the mean time til I have a better solution. So bear with me
Critique is obviously always welcome, I'm here to learn as much as the next guy.
Anyways thanks for stopping by and happy posting

Basic ranged arrow fire. Block out stages now, will add some more movement, and fluidity to the pull and some of the poses tomorrow as well as an impact for the robot.
Might cut her going back to idle to focus on the attack, or just make a second idle stance after she shoots.
Closeup of Drow.
And closeup of the impact:
I like how the bow vibrates after the arrow is being shot, it's really subtle but works great!
You are probably still working on it and im no specialist in animation so can't tell much but I think the arm holding the arrow before shooting is a bit stiff: when the rope is released, your arm which was holding it should be pulled back because it is pulling with an opposite force (sorry my english isn't very good, hope you understand).
Other than that looks good, maybe some movements are a bit linear, and you could use some secondary animations. No human is perfectly still when doing something, when focusing before shooting she could maybe move her head down a bit like if she was trying to aim, her body is stiff too, even if archer look still when aiming I think it takes some efforts to keep the pose and there are some forces applied on the whole body, muscles are being contracted and released after the arrow is shot.
It is just my opinion though I find your animation at a good level already, keep up the good work
I kept your crits in mind today while I was working and added in some movement to the arrow hand after she fires, some secondary on the arrows while she is shifting weight, and a slight breathing motion, and head adjustment while she is aiming, check it out :
I was kind of stumbling a bit today, but i JUST came up with this bad-ass series of attacks I want to have her do, and I'll be hopefully posting up a timing of it later.
Here's my progess on the bursts so far:
My main ref for the draw style is from this video of Russian "dagger' bow firing technique:

It definitely needs some tweaking, and probably more frames.
Any crits would be super useful
drinkmilk- Yeah the pull seems kinda wonky, especially on the quick fire, I'm def going to retool that... it's kind of becoming my bane.
kinetic- thanks man! Yeah I want to have the robot approach when the archer Idles, maybe.. Maybe.. Either way I have thought about that for sure.
So here's my progress today. The approach after the archer fires the long shot to the robot. It's still block out, and I can already see some improvements with leg position, but I wanted to post today for some crit.
Here's the normal speed:
Here's the slowmo:
I know I'm jumping around alot from motion to motion, but I really want to get a full blockout done before any tweaks. Also she totally goes to a crouching position because the next "chunk" involves a jump over the robot, so she should carry her momentum from her run to launch herself over the baddie.
Anyways, crit away and have a happy weekend
Here's my work so far on the attack. Block out is fully done (yay).
Next comes timing and polishing, looking to have the piece done by Thursday or Friday at the latest so I can move on to some new stuff (double yay).
I think my weakest area right now is the still the fast shots, and the transition from them, to the long pull.
I'm pretty happy with the feeling of weight on the jump, but I haven't really touched the mid-air pull back or shot yet.
As always, Crit away.
The fast shot is giving me some problems, but it should be worked out soon.
Still aiming for polish/render by Friday
Robot needs some love, and general polish over all, but I'm real happy with the timing overall.
but here's an update my latest work.
Thanks for the comments!
