Hi guys! Is there a website for video game art style guides? I'm poking around trying to find one but I'm not having a lot of luck. Any help is appreciated!
Also, if there isn't a site for this, would you visit it if I created one?
I've not seen a website like that. I'd definitely visit it if you made one. Style guides are comparatively rare from my experience, being mainly used as an internal document. Though I've been seeing more recently as all this steamy player workshop business is afoot.
The closest thing I can think of is Creative Uncut, which is just a repository of concept art from games. A site with legitimate style guides would be amazing.
Thanks guys! And cheerd daphz for the link, definitely exploring that one today.
Dustin, I agree. Getting it's going to be pretty tricky, but I've been linked to and stumbled across a few already and it's enough to make a website for. I had the same basic problem when I started GamePitches (www.gamepitches.com, a repository for design and pitch docs for games), but there was enough interest in it that I got a TON of donations. I have I think ~40 docs online (including Bioshock and the original Fallout pitch doc, an exclusive) and another 15 - 30 ready to post. I think I could get even luckier since I have special access to art directors, and a similar website showing the respectful and legal way in which I present the work. We'll see!
I am going to do it now, though. My Twitter and FB blew up with "yes please do this" messages as soon as I asked about it. w00t!
I would love to see more art style guides!
I added a couple here on the wiki. I would be very interested either in hosting them here, or linking to your site.
