Hello guys,
my question is when i finish my low poly model and i am ready to bake my normal map, how should i position my low poly on the high poly? should the low one encapsulate the high where you dont see the high poly model or barely touch the surface? what if the low poly is surrounded by the high one? would it bake? sorry for my noobish questions :poly136:

But that is obviously not completely possible, it doesn't really matter if sometimes the low is slightly above or slightly under the high, just try to match it as good as possibly with the triangle count you have.
one more question, what about smoothing groups? dose my high poly smoothing matters? or its only the low poly one's? I've read somewhere that you put all ur low poly under smoothing group 1 for hard surfaces modeling. Is that a good approach?
no need to set smoothing groups on that.
on the lowpoly SG question, generally no, read this (wich is at the top of this forum)
