Glass modeling

Quick noob question. How does one model glass for use in games,Do you just model a flat plane and texture that or would you give it depth by extruding it and texturing both sides? Not sure what the norm is when set up in a game engine. For example, something like the glass of a clock face or something like the image below:

    One or two planes could work but if they are actual planes, then you need a mask for them to mask out the circle shape.If you dont want to use that mask, then you can use circle shaped planes with the half amount of sides that you used on the needle.Maybe it would be enough if you would make just the outer glass side if you dont want to do texturing on the inner side.
