Little help ?

Okay so I'm making this Skyland , and i have a problem.

Basically the polygons are annoying in way , it's hard to assign smoothing groups to them.
What would be the best way to apply SG to this type of poly structure ?
I tried like 6 hours doing that, but the selection part is so hard that im tired already and wanna give up :poly127:

    Well you could retopo over it first to get a better use of polygons, and make it easier to UV. However, for organic models you usually don't need any smoothing groups because most the time you don't have harsh 80 degree or greater angles from face to face.

    The only reason i want the smoothing groups was that i can select the parts of a island and break them in UV unwrap so it's better. Or should i UV Unwrap whole island as one?

    maybe i should consider to retopology it :/

    Retopologizing would probably be your better option so your edges can follow the general forms you have. You don't need to spend much time on it though, zbrush qremesher or 3D Coats auto topo would more then sufficient.

    What is the final result you want though? I feel like breaking this down into smaller pieces might be a better idea. What is the size of that island and is that a tree suppose to be growing out of it?

    Okay i got it to point where it's 3000 polys. is it possible to change the structure of polygons in Zbrush ?
    The island is about 5x5x5 Kilometers in size.
    There are not trees in that pic yet.

    Sorry for double post. But i got to this point. New problem. Why the Uv map is getting smaller and smaller and not constant ?

    EDIT: I found the solution. The seams were the problem :\
