Vachyre polycounter lvl 11
I'm simply going to produce the first little box section at the start of the very first Sonic the Hedgehog. I'm aware of Rilem's excellent Sonic 3 Diorama and have no intention to match it. I just want a dead simple little project with 3 props and a badnik. I may even add a tree.

    So far everything is under or exactly 100 tris.
    The grass and Earth are separate models to adhere to the poly limit. I may up it to 500 later treating it as a hero prop.
    Textures are 64x64 except the terrain which is currently 128x128.
    UPDATE! - I have successfully broken the original preview. Didn't have a lot of luck with the 're-upload this model' option.

    Looks good! Maybe add in a base layer underneath the "Earth" so that when you rotate the model you just see ground and not missing faces.

    Knocked together a Badnik to play the role of only Sonic character in the scene.
    Tomorrow I'll see about adding some 'Remix' elements.

    Yeah, I want to implement a floor and some kind of skybox eventually. Cheers for the feedback.

    First piece of mixed in Geometry. The Assault Rifle is 95 tris.
    I need to work out how to snap the UV's to a 64x64 grid to make better use of the limited pixels.
    Cracked it - Set the Grid size to 0.016 in the 3ds Max UV preferences.

    Low poly Texturing is far more complex than I'd initially thought. Here's the progress on the mixed in character model.

    Testing Skyboxes and general scene composition. Tempted to alter the terrain to suit the more recent sonic games.

    Transparency is prooving to be really evil.
    Sorting between multiple transparent materials is buggy. looks like I'll have to scrap the fake reflection system.

    To help resolve transparency woes you should break off all the transparent poly's and apply a separate material. It's not a complete fix but It yields better results than having just 1 material.
