Portfolio Building Help

Hello everyone!

This is only my second thread on here, but I have a very important project I am starting.
Currently I am in Grad School for Game Design and need to build my Portfolio up for my midpoint.

First off any suggestions you have for me to add to my portfolio will be helpful.

Second I am in the process of modeling a cartoon bomb for a game I have designed. I am going low poly but i haven’t even checked the current count yet. I am just hoping to get some insight into my next step for the model and how I am can make it more dynamic but any constructive comment will do!

***I am not a Modeler but a Game Designer. I have chosen 3D Modeling as an assistant to my Game Design Endeavors. Please be honest, but don’t be too harsh this is really not my strong suit.

I am also posting a picture of a cartoon weapon set I did for review!

Hope you all Like... A Lot more posting should be coming as I do more models.

Hey guys I am back with another Model! I am going to go through some tutorials on Modeling to build up the portfolio. Here is the latest work I have done.

I followed a very basic Tutorial to create the Wine Glass and then set out to come up with a way to Shade it. I used a Binn, 3 light sources and High quality rendering to get the end result

    All comments are appreciated!

Here's a few tips I have for you. When you are looking to add something to your portfolio ask yourself, "is it cool"? If not then find something else. There are lots of tutorials on assents better than a wine glass. Secondly, work on presentation. There are also tutorials on that you could find with a simple google search. If you're going to build a site I used weebly, and its easy to use.

If you want to be a game designer then I feel like learning how to program and making prototypes in different engines would be a better way to spend your time. Right now your modeling is beginner level, which is fine, but nowhere near where you should even start thinking about putting it into a portfolio.

Thanks for the advice. I do agree I need to spend time with my Programming making games, but I am looking to improve my skills in Modeling as much as I can as well. I am going to an Art School so they are expecting me to have some sort of basic knowledge of 3D Modeling. I am just looking to round myself out! :)

Just finished yet another quick 3D model done in Maya. I kept the Polys really low for the Table for use in a Game.
This time I didn't use any tutorial. I just build the table starting with the top and moving down. When I got to the Material I chose to use a Binn again to give it that shiny look that you see from the fake wood tables.
I have a couple of different ideas for my next model. I might Model a Ring or continue with the momentum of the Wine Glass and Table and model a plate with some silverware.

Oh and of course I need to finish my Cartoon Bomb!

I hope you are liking my work. I hope to hear some Comments to help me better fix any mistakes I am making.

**I want to remind everyone I am for a lack of a better word...Beginner at 3D Modeling, but I insist that I learn and get better. Just looking for a push in the right direction.
