This is a pretty specific and technical question... but I can't seem to find the answer online elsewhere... Edge Masking used to work, and just today it stopped working. In the side panel I can toggle it on-off, and Mask Preview Enabled box is ticked. In the viewport there's nothing, and it doesn't seem to work, even when in side panels it is shown as turned on.
I've been trying to paint around this problem, but it is very time consuming, painting chipped paint and rust marks around sharp edges of chairs and whatnot, without Edge Mask working. Please does anyone know how to solve this problem?

For future reference, this probably would be a more appropriate topic for the 'Tech Talk' subforum. Maybe a mod could move it over for you so you get more of a response.
But to address your question, could you verify that your 'Falloff End' slider in the 'Edge Mask' dropdown of the 'Projection' Palette is set to 1.000?
Sometimes when you create a new project that setting defaults to 0.001 for some reason, which is effectively no masking. Additionally, the 'Falloff Start' slider should be set to 0.001 to get the full range of falloff across the edges.
This is the first thing which comes to mind. If it is something more than that, then we can go from there, haha.
Hope that helps!
Hi! Sorry I thought there was a software specific sub forum, but at 5am I was probably really tired, and somehow just didn't see it, so I tried here. Will definitely make sure I find the Tech Talk next time!
Was the falloff slider the issue?
Hi, I just got back in the class room today, and the Falloff End indeed is the issue! And the weirdest thing is, that drop down menu wouldn't open 2 nights ago when I was having this problem, because I remember thinking how weird it was to have an arrow icon rotating, but no sub menu showing up for Edge Mask!
Another odd thing is 4 icicle thing in my viewport that frames and limits a square painting area. It isn't a huge problem, but it took me an hour to figure out why all of a sudden my paint won't go further, because those icicle thing are too little to notice.
I guess Mari reset itself after a series of serious crashes...
Anyway, thank you for helping me!
They come and go randomly, and today they didn't show up at all when I worked in Mari. I'll take a screenshot next time they show up!
Here they are:
Anyway, to prevent the buffer from autoscaling, first set the Scale to '1:1' in Painting > Paint Buffer > Transform. Then, in the 'Reset On Bake' dialog box, select 'Disabled.' That will prevent the buffer from changing size unless you manually scale it.
Yay! Thank you Jeremy again! How do you know all this? Are you a uni professor in some 3D-related program/major?
And no, I don't teach, but I'm just a Mari user- have been using it professionally for about a year and a half. I was once an intern for The Foundry as well, so I worked very closely with older versions of Mari.
