Never been in any of this challenges but I'm eager to try, Im a total noob in environments but that's what I expect to be doing some day, so let's give it a try now that summer vacations come!. My vote goes to.
Edit: Im switching my vote to the image below, its amazing and I really love that style Editing the image here for not messing up with the vote count.
Hmmm, my thoughts, not sure why everyone is favoring the temple. If you think it will be easy, I would doubt it for "noobs". The sheer scale of it really lacks any nice details (particularly those trapezoid shapes running off the pillars). It's quite ambiguous, you will need a lot of creative input of your own to pull it off, otherwise I can see many blocky big shaped environments emerging. The statue at the end will cause some grief, obviously you could replace it with something else.
Perhaps consider focusing on polishing some nice small props (what you will most likely be hired to do) and developing your workflow with a much easier-to-follow concept.
My question about the one people are posting, what is the draw to this concept?
I am curious.
Well would be the same reason why I chose it in the first place. It's not intimidating to a n00b, it leaves a lot of room for the person to do what he wants with the environment.
A concept with a lot of props in it, looks daunting to tackle as such. Granted the whole point of this challenge is for n00bs to learn how to tackle a multitude of assets, challenges along with managing an environment. But that's just me thinking aloud or it could be the drugs talking. Hmmm
Also add to it the 'cool' factor. Dramatic lighting, eerie and mysterious setting, an underground dwarven environment that induces claustrophobia. I don't know, take your pick. xD
I also don't really get the temple, it's the same as the last one, just another setting.
just adding another suggestion: (altough people that have done a couple of challenges might be tired of the sci-fi'ish stuff by now)
Maybe it might look a bit much at first, but if you analyze it I don't really think it would be that far out of reach.
it has the basic stuff (floor/wall/bed thing/ceiling) and isn't to complex overall.
All the panels/pc stuff could all be made out of 1 texture/variations on 1 piece (seems like a good thing to learn), if you look at the shelves you could make 2-3 small assets to fill that up. (box/stack of harddrives/some small pc thingys that you made earlier).
Then it has a couple of easy props (lights/cooler/book/laptop)
And a whole bunch of cables (could be 1 tileable texture).
Only thing that might be out of reach is the chair
I'm wondering this myself, without the characters, it is a pretty boring piece and everything is made of stone.
To be honest I liked the temple because I was imagining myself sculpting a sweeet dragon to guard the end of the corridor . Hehe.
But no, I thought it was one of the best choices out of what had been shown up to that point because the degree of difficulty is pretty low, but it's still fairly eye catching.
I think pretty much everything that's been posted since is just as good or better though.... ESPECIALLY THIS!

I too think it was best of the bunch; but this newest addition tops it even more! I'd like to readjust my vote to this one, however whichever of the two wins; I'll be parcipitating!
I think the second is very simple but if done right could look really good.
I really don't think I'll be able to take part in the following month for a number of reasons, but I'd really love to do that crystal scene.
Hmm, even with the new images I think i will stick to my previous choices, especialy the sci-fi one - it is heavily modular so I guess it will be easier to create, and will allow to focus on some of the objects to make them more detailed (like the chairs etc.)
From new images, I guess this one speaks to me most - it is focused on one place, with several props and is easy to read:
This picture is looking awesome, but I doubt many will finish it in one month...
I think people under-estimate the work it needs.
What is interesting is that no matter how simple or complex these MNCs have been, there are always many people who don't finish for whatever reason, myself included.
I've been lurking around these environment challenges awhile. With the hardcore lack of weapon art positions, I'm consider delving into hard surface environment art.
Preferential to the first image, as it's got a nice bit of variation, and seems that it has more modeling focus. Both look nice to start with.

Me too, this one.
Guess this one wins

See what you did Alex?
You scared people into voting for/suggesting other stuff now! xD

This one is superb. If it is elected, I'm in

Either of These, Im new to this noob challenge and im looking forward!
Looking forward to whichever one is chosen.
These 2 get my votes.
I definitely like the crystal one too.

Could always hold out a month on it

I vote for those 2

^^^^ This!
I'll vote for this one too
I think people under-estimate the work it needs.
Omg, lovely! This would be awesome.

This one definitively this one
Sooo true, but I suppose the upside is that even if you don't finish you'll at least have some kickass hand painted tileables to show off.
I reallllly want to see people have a go at this one, even if I don't have time to try it.

My vote for this one. Wanting to do some hand painted work.
Well this one is interesting, I vote for this one
Well this one is very nice too, interesting for hand painted textures !
AGREED! I've never done handpainted but would love to try
I love this; particularly the motion of the material and the reflections in the puddles. Would be quite a challenge indeed.
Agreed
