pelt mapping in 3ds max not stretching seams

It will create strings on every open area. You can cap those areas before pelting and then remove the polys when you're done, OR...
What I do in max 2012 and higher:
Forget about pelt mapping with the stringer and stretcher.
Do a planar map.
Go into edge mode and turn on point to point seams and draw out your seams on the model and break.
Select the faces/element and either hit relax or quick peel.
Done.
It's like pelt mapping but without the annoying stringer and springs.
