Textures do on the basis of photographs, mixing them in different ways)
sometimes make a texture from scratch in 3D and make it render in the 2d.
One thing that I would add as a suggestion is dropping a high pass filter on overlay over the final version of the diffuse. It'll help sharpen and pop the textures even more.
