nope. can't say anything. Maybe Jerc can say something.
But the last updates have been rather speedy - 3.5 earlier this year, then 3.6, now 3.7. Allegorithmic works closely with the studios and they listen to what people like Rich want. So I wouldn't be surprised to see some cool stuff coming with the next updates.
I don't think you can go wrong picking it up on Steam and getting familiar with it.
I can't give a specific timeframe for the next major version yet, but we still have 1 or 2 minor updates scheduled for 3.x before switching to 4.
Major upgrades come with a fee, usually half the regular price but most of the time you can get it cheaper through discounts.
As Kwramm just wrote, getting 3.x will definitely help you being up to speed when 4 comes out, and I'm pretty sure you'll want that
Great program for touching a bunch of assets at once- for sure! Some cool stuff in there...
Has anyone had any luck with SD generated AO? I'm having a hard time getting a good looking bake... comparable to something I would achieve in Max, or XNormal.
Also, when baking AO from a normal mapped low poly model in SD, anyone have any luck with getting it to not freak out about interpenetrating geo?
Acutally we recently had someone on our forum showing us a clever trick to get better AO bakes in SD, getting rid of the interpenetration issues.
Here is how it goes:
Invert your normal map completely (all channels).
Then use this inverted normal as the normal map for the AO bake and check "Invert Normals". This will produce a smoother and better AO maps on pretty much any assets.
I'm not exactly sure why it works better yet, but it does, you should give it a try!

Jarc: ill test out this when I am able
That being said, we plan to work on improving the AO quality in the near future.
