Ctrl+Alt+MMB zoom - does not work?

Quite an urgent question here.

My Ctrl+Alt+MMB for zooming has stopped working.

- Alt Gr + MMB does work for zooming
- I have previously made UI/Preference changes
- I've tested another mouse and keyboard and the problem still exists
- 3ds Max 2011

Has anyone got any suggestions?

Thanks

Don't use Max but this: I have previously made UI/Preference changes

    Could be the problem.

Move your 3dsmax.ini file to a different spot and then restart max, that will reset max to its default settings. If it works you know the problem is with a setting inside of max. If not you might as well put it back.

The file can be found in the 3dsmax folder in "program files" and if it isn't there, its in:
    "C:\Users\YOUR-USER-NAME\AppData\Local\Autodesk\3dsMax\MAX-VERSION\enu\"

That's where I would start just to find out if its a custom setting you flipped or if its something else.

It also could be some other piece of software running in the background.

I'll do that right away Mark. I was reluctant about touching the .ini file just in case it lost any of my settings. But as long as it's replaced, everything will be back as it was right?

I'm pretty sure it's a setting that I changed, but I've played around with them for a while now to no avail.

Yep, when the ini file goes missing max recreates it from scratch like a fresh install. When it comes back everything goes back the way it was.

You might be able to compare the two files for differences and find the setting. I know you can view two documents in word side by side scrolling one scrolls the other. There might be a better way to compare two documents for changes also. I know some programing tools have this built in but it depends on what you have available and what you feel like installing.

Removing the .ini file didn't fix it. Would removing the .kbd file make a difference?
  • Mark Dygert
    Bummer...

Moving the .kbd file might do it. If not I would probably start looking at shutting down non-critical processes in the windows task manager.
  • Playdo
    .kbd didn't work.

Do you have any suggestions on what processes. I'm a bit clueless when it comes to this. I just uninstalled my Wacom bamboo software which temporarily stopped the panning, orbiting and zoom (Alt Gr) from working.

Solved: I re-tried a different keyboard and now it works. Maybe it had something to do with the wacom drivers too.

    Cheers Mark
