How to preview character animations in 3DS MAX?

Can someone post a small "how to" load the various basic animations for a decompiled SMD DOTA 2 character in 3DS MAX?

I want to pose the character using the bones for the purpose of creating promo images for various items I've created.

Much obliged.

    Hey Witblitz,

This is how i do it, you need to decompile the character from the client

once decompiled you should have a directory full of .smd files, which contains not only the base items but also animations.

You can then just import the .smd animation file into your Max scene and your rigged character should have the animations loaded on.

Just a word of warning, i often end up with animations that presumably due to the conversion process are buggy, so if one of the animations doesn't work try one of the others. And make sure to save your scene before importing, and re load it each time you try a different animation.

I would definitely be interested in hearing if anyone has another better process for doing this, as currently this feels pretty hacky.
