once decompiled you should have a directory full of .smd files, which contains not only the base items but also animations.
You can then just import the .smd animation file into your Max scene and your rigged character should have the animations loaded on.
Just a word of warning, i often end up with animations that presumably due to the conversion process are buggy, so if one of the animations doesn't work try one of the others. And make sure to save your scene before importing, and re load it each time you try a different animation.
I would definitely be interested in hearing if anyone has another better process for doing this, as currently this feels pretty hacky.
