When I work on really low poly stuff in 3d coat, exported as obj from maya I always seem to end up with little patches I can't paint on. If I make the brush really big I can usually color it, but I can't as soon as the brush is small again for details.
Anyone know how to resolve this?
I've tried microvertex painting and it seems to not have this problem, but it doesn't allow me to paint a texture under 512, and doesn't allow me to paint transparency...

It was since fixed during the v4 beta run though, are you running the latest version? If not, report this on mantis, their bug tracker. It's really the best way to get stuff fixed, although if there's an urgent bug you can contact customer support through email.
