One of my coworkers showed me 3d coat this week and I saw a lot of potential for its texturing capabilities. Are there any quality training resources out there for 3d coat in regards to texturing, specifically for a low poly model?
2) textures > calculate occlusion works great, just turn up the lights & post smoothing to get rid of the faceted look. I typically use 32 lights & 16 post smoothing steps.
3)edit > preferences, click on the brushing tab and turn down your brush sensitivity. I found the brush too sensitive by default and turned it down to .22
welllllll I made this but it's not that great :P I finally got camstudio working with my soundcard so I'll see about recording a better video and actually pre-plan it and follow a script.
This is exactly the kind of stuff I was looking for. Some solid intro stuff brother. If you do go through and do a more in depth video, shoot me an email and let me know, bknapp@hirezstudios.com. Thanks I really appreciate it. Nice throw back with the game boy on the character btw.
Good stuff, Justin! I'm thinking there would be a few of us interested in a more in-depth video if you decide to make one.
I've been trying to find a good tutorial going over how well 3dCoat integrates with Zbrush. Maybe this is possible in zbrush and I have no knowledge of it, but I'd really like to do all my sculpting in zbrush...but polypaint/texture with the ability to have layers and blending modes. I know in 3dCoat you have that ability and it transfers all those layers to PS. If polypainting with layers isnt possible in zbrush, is there a way to carry that sculpt over to 3dCoat and texture/paint there?
LOL, a year later and I haven't made the videos yet! I'll record some quick videos on a few topics this Saturday, I promise they won't be long and rambling.

I've been using it professionally for about a year now, a few tips I can give are:
1) install the applink for your preferred 3d app
2) textures > calculate occlusion works great, just turn up the lights & post smoothing to get rid of the faceted look. I typically use 32 lights & 16 post smoothing steps.
3)edit > preferences, click on the brushing tab and turn down your brush sensitivity. I found the brush too sensitive by default and turned it down to .22
