Game Design Schools

Hello Friends.
Ive been working with 3D for about a year or so now and wanted to get into a game design college or school. I've looked on many game studios job sites and most require a degree in game design or art. Would any of you be so awesome to help me?. Any location is fine. Ive looked into Think Tank Training Center and Vancouver Film school.

As silly as it sounds, any "requirements" on job sites are optional. They are there to deter people without any experience from applying. Degrees are definitely not required to get a job as an artist in the games industry. The most important thing is your portfolio, a stronger portfolio will beat out a degree vs no degree every time. Degrees are only good if you want to work in another country.

Most common advice I see game designers give out is that they highly recommend not getting a "game design degree." Most of those degrees don't actually teach you what you need to do to be able to function in that field. Most of them recommend a getting a CS degree and then just building games, levels, and projects on the side.

Dont forge that game design =//= modeling or artwork

Gamedesign is another job, you wrtite documents and generate user experiences, do balancing and all these things. Game Development is what you want to do, and as an artist. Be careful not to go to a game design degree and wonder why you learn so much theory and things and never get to 3d modeling.

my personal belief and this is mine alone, if you want to make a career in this industry learning from others is a part of it, but you have to learn to teach yourself, so you can keep your skills up with the latest techniques.

Miyamoto Musashi once said do not have a favorite weapon but train with all of them, I like this process in CG, the software or techniques I am using today may not be the software im using in ten years time, and im not about to go back to a animation school every 10 years to maintain a strong industry standard.

A school i'm hoping to get into next year, here in Australia.
They do online courses if you are not interested in studying abroad.

I've had a long decent chat with the guys, they had a booth at comicon, i was sold on the spot. If you do the 3D course, you learn 3d, if you do design, you learn design ect.

Unlike more broader courses such as RMIT's game design course which is a combination of every field in game development, no one wants to be a jack of all trades master of none.
