Arc Productions HIRING FOR Animation Director
Arc Productions, a Canadian based CG animation and visual effects facility located in downtown Toronto is looking for an Animation Director to join our team. With over 250 artists and technical directors and the most up to date resources available, we bring the vision to both major Hollywood studios and independent producers to life in a wide array of formats: theatrical features, television, DVDs, shorts and game cinematics.
JOB TITLE: Animation Director
DEPARTMENT: Animation
REPORTS TO: Head of Animation
POSITION OVERVIEW
The Character Designer creates visual direction for characters for use by various asset departments. This role creates texture callouts for use by the Surfacing Department, creates facial draw overs for use by the Rigging Department, and may create expression sheets for the Animation Department. This position must be able to design collaboratively with the Show Director in adherence to budget and schedule constraints while maintaining the show’s overall look and mood, and troubleshoot creative and technical issues as they arise.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
• Responsible for establishing key character animation, and animation bible for the entire series with the Lead Animator and Director
• To ensure the high standard of animation is maintained throughout the production
• Write scene by scene animation notes for each episode shipment
• Review animation passes from the internal and external teams and write notes and responses to push animation to the desired standard
• Approve facial and character rig with Rigging Lead
• Approve Blend Shapes and Morphs for facial expressions
• Work closely with the Director to understand overall storytelling and humour of the show
• Work closely with the animation teams to improve each delivery and in turn reduce retakes as production proceeds.
REQUIRED SKILLS & EXPERIENCE
• Minimum of 3 years Experience in directing animation for long form Animation productions
• Understanding of 3D animation is required
• Clear communication skills
• Must be very detailed oriented and organized
• Must passionate about character animation and acting
