Massive Chalice? Massively Awesome!

So Double fine has a new kickstarter! At first I was like..ew...you still need to finish your first kickstarter...but then realized they are a decently sized studio with multiple teams, and I have yet to be disappointed by any of their games.

Me too!! I was thinking the other day (after finishing Storm of Swords) what my house sigil and motto would be... AND NOW I HAVE THE OPTION to put my name, sigil, and motto in a game by my favorite Devs? $100 well fucking spent, I say!

So cool, immediately backed it when I saw the Double Fine Adventure update . Does this mean there will be more than 900 blood lines in the game? o.O

I don't see them being able to back out now, it's going to take a lot of work to make sure all 1000+ bloodlines are unique enough, and I wonder if you'll even find your own bloodline when you play the game.

I really wish they put a cap on their bloodlines....

I could see them making it work somehow though, such as having 20+ different nationalities, with up to 100 bloodlines in each one, each with a different color partnered with a nationality color. But I agree, the bloodlines should of been a $250 prize, with more like 250 total bloodlines max.

I believe the bloodlines won't be as hardcore as to be super unique, but just a starting-name and banner, especially since the enemy factions will need one. (the 100 reward entails: color, sigil, motto and castle name )

I would guess that a ton of content will be randomly generated and fused together in the game, including that of starting families and their attributes.

They are keen to mention that Brad Muir is a fan of turn based games AND roguelikes!

You can definitely find your own bloodline if you want to: "The default setup of a new game of MASSIVE CHALICE will pull randomly from the default bloodline pool but there will be an option to select the exact bloodlines with which you start the game. That way you can battle alongside the Schafer and Muir houses!" - from the FAQ.

Sounds pretty similar to a game high concept I wrote up a few years ago. It ended up being a little too ambitious to what we were trying to do at the time though. I hope this works out.

Bloody hell, my poor bank account.

Really like the sound of the game design and concept. The bloodline idea and family relics sounds amazing. It they receive as much support as they did with Broken age, which I imagine they will then the new features and ideas maybe quite a treat.

The Cave was an excellent little romp. fantastic narration and great characters. The only puzzle I didn't like was one very particular puzzle dealing with the Time Traveler. I know sometimes Double Fine doesn't have the best execution in their games, but I still find their games charming and surprising enough to keep giving them my money.

Loved that game. Wasn't it done by like one guy aswell?
Double Fine is easily my fav studio right now. The creativity and games coming out of them are out of this world. I'd easily go there if I ever got the chance and a fair deal

Fun fact: My girlfriend who's not a gamer is a big fan of every (Maybe not iron brigade) Double Fine game. She doesn't even know it's the same studio that has done them. That counts for something in my book.


Anywho, yeah. They're getting my money.

I emailed them a question about the role of genetics in the game, sounds awesome.

Hi Zac!

The depth of the genetic system isn't nailed down yet and will be determined by our backing scope, discussions with the community, and what works best for gameplay through our iterative design process.

We've discussed mutations and customization options like skin and hair tone being passed down through a bloodline, as well as "perks and quirks" that appear due to inbreeding or from recessive traits.

I'm hoping our system will be deep enough to produce some really interesting hero results and provide any massive mendel fan enough of a genetic playground, but will be representational and accessible enough that players don't need to be a geneticist to understand what is going on.
