Welcome to the monthly noob challenge 8 concept thread. Post concepts of environments you'd like to do next month as always vote. Please post a concept with your vote to give more options.
Hi everyone,
I'm new to Polycount but really inspired by this challenge, think I'd like to join. I like the first one that Alex put up so that'll be my vote.
I really wanna join in this time... so i'll give some suggestions for the concept too
having recently made a fantasy indoor enviroement i'd like some outdoor sci-fi but i'm really liking the cranky house on the hill alex posted
Lots of work, but man that's a pretty sweeet concept. Haha, on the portfolio-building upside, you could probably make an entire second scene just by re-purposing the assets, shaders, and textures from this one .
Sweet! I'm most definitely going to participate in this; gotta get those rusty UDK skills up to date. I'll post up some concepts later (when I find some ) but first I have a couple of dumb questions because I am a noob about this noob challenge: Could I post concepts from specific games (like a cool halo concept, for example)? Also, I would need the artist's permission to post it here, correct? Since I can't vote yet I'll just lobby for the house on the hill one in the op. It's the best one you guys!
i think that this is a good environment. less focus on finer detail more focus on overall scene. The one thing i've noticed over and over again is that people aren't finishing their envrionments. If i join next month, I will be focusing on time management and doing whatever necessary to complete the scene.
I've been following all the Monthly Noob Challenges since the first one but never been able to join in. Hopefully now that Uni is going to be over soon I can take a break and participate in the 8th one!
Man, I'm so jelious of these threads. Wish i had time to work on these But anyhow, This one is awesome! Gets my vote as well. Working with a smaller scope but higher level of detail is something i haven't seen done in these challenges before. The basement i suppose was close, But there wasn't THIS much going on.

As much as I absolutely love that concept, I cant help but think it would be a bit too much for the Noob challenege. Definately a lot of people that could make this really well. Personally, I'd spen a week just on that Vehicle model. Plus everyone worked on foliage last month.
Be cool to move onto a different area of execution. Like hard surface texture practice or something that hasn't been a focus yet...
I've been thinking about this for some days now, and initially didn't wan't to vote at all, because the concepts are all so great... I really love this one:
But I wanted to some fantasy environment and something with a windmill for a veeeeery long time now, so I vote for this one:
But I'm planning to participate no matter which concept will win. They are all great.
Nice pics guys, I think we should focus on a more concentrated environment scene. Kinda like someone here said before, small space with high detail, as I think having less pieces means we can really focus on the bigger pieces and learn more from them.

So like, something like this? :poly121: I mean.... if anything a month is too much time.
BTW, have you guys seen the AnimeBackgrounds tumblr? I'm not even into anime, but this is like the best shit ever.

Looking forward to this!

I like this one a lot. To start with it looks like a lot of work but a lot of the assets would be quite simple.

There's a few in here, I think it's one whole "environment" but we can choose which one to do out of it.Original
Will post some more if I find any
This is beautiful...this one
I have to say that this one really intrigues my interest.
Here's my contribution to the cause:

I'm probably going to do this anyway but if its in one of these challenges then it´ll be even more fun

Good luck guys
I'd also like to join in on the challenge this time, and that environment looks like a lot of fun. I, too, vote for this.
EDIT: Oh, I missed the post a concept part. Excuse me while I go find one.
this should be the one its ace
Cool scene. Makes me think of Rage and Borderlands.
Still banging on with 7. Hopefully get more time on this one now that I've moved into my new flat
So I'll throw in these 2 concepts:
Personally I would really like to do one of these.
From the already posted concepts my vote would also go to the one mentioned above me
I'd also vote for this one.

It looks simple to break down the required assets, perfect for noobs like myself. XD
although this one:
and this one:
seem good as well. I'd love to do a fantasy outdoor setting like that.
But I wanted to some fantasy environment and something with a windmill for a veeeeery long time now, so I vote for this one:

keep it for juily
`cause Last of Us looks awesome
I like this one.
The more i look at it, the more i love it as a Noob project...
Nice level of modularity. Good scene for texture improvement and decal work. Cool semi-damaged distanced buildings.
It'd be cool to see how different artist's approach the area's off-shot if it's chosen

One of my favorite things about the noob challenge is seriously the concept threads! So much eye candy.
All the concepts are awesome, but this one is my vote!
I myself would never be able to make the characters as well as the environment. Not in a month anyways
Still, It's good for scale reference...
So like, something like this? :poly121: I mean.... if anything a month is too much time.

Anime has amazing art. I'm not even like some anime person, but damn man some of it is great.
Also more votes guys, you have two days to pick!
Remember to keep it doable! at the noob level
Lol, I was just posting cool shit. Not really anything for the challenge.
i know XD i was just agreeing with you at the same time :P, enforcing the voting!
what were the past themes? i started on like the 3rd one i think.
- small room ruined, with water etc
- little house on the hill at night
- deus ex war room (sci fi)
- outside courtyard
- ????
Not sure what else we can really go for :L, i remember before asking for an urban theme like a city or something...
I vote for this one:
