Greetings all,
My name's Jack Oakman and, as I'm currently in the market for a job at the moment, I thought it'd be fun to brush up the portfolio by participating in this competition.
For this entry I thought I'd take my inspiration from the high-altitude mountain climbing fraternity. I think their outfits are quite striking, but I think it will be fun to use a bit of artistic license and push the design.
Personally, I really like using Zbrush to do this as I have more freedom to try things out than with 2D alone. I also like to work in colour from the off as I find this gives me a better sense of how my design will turn out once it's a low-poly character. There's a couple of examples of this on my website (

Anyway, I'm including my initial block-out here. Still very much at the experimental stage. Once I'm happy with the silhouette, I'll retopo and rebuild.
Thanks for having me!

Thanks very much for the kind comments. Yes, the Lara project was a great learning process for me. Looking forward to putting all that into practice and getting my teeth into the mixamo auto-rigger. Any tips during these preliminary stages?
Is there any documentation on good working practices when dealing with Mixamo?
If you decide to add some specific, unusual shapes to your mesh, you can always take them out, rig the character, and put them back on.
Good luck!
I like it!
Still blocking out my character. Done a bit of work on the Arctic trousers. Been having fun learning all the insert mesh functions. Feel a bit clumsy with it stil. But slowly getting the hang of things.
I'm still trying to decide whether her bum looks a bit big in these pants. It's the first time I've sculpted anything so puffy, and it's throwing me off a bit.
Got a bit more done today. Starting to come together now. Crits and comments welcome.

Other than that everything looks awesome!
aneshmode - Thanks.
Demomode - Cheers buddy.
Fun, though, isn't it?
nacertag - Appreciated.
KristaW - Thanks! The rope was generated in Max and modified in ZBrush. The two work together well when using GoZ, but building a rope like that in ZB would be a bit of a pig tbh, as would manipulating it in Max.
Thanks mate. I've finally got them more or less where I want them for the retopo stage. Hope you like them now.
So, that said 102 subtools and 66.5million polys later and my High-Poly work is done. My computer has a headache, and so do I. But we got there. Now to make it 20k...
:poly142:
this is imba. great job!
Stiffler - Me neither! It'll be a little while though. Phew!
aneshmode - Thanks.
Alara - Coming from an artist as proficient as youself, that means a lot. Thanks!
Chaouch - Cheers.
alphajayel - Thank you matey. Btw, what's imba mean?
KristaW - Thank you very much!
More updates soon!
Help greatly appreciated.

Wasted lots of time finding the proper way to embed youtube video. And found this thread that solve my problem -> http://www.polycount.com/forum/showthread.php?t=104823
Forgot to check the "automatically embed media" checkbox in the advanced tab.
D'oh! Thanks for jumping in there, buddy!
