Hi guys,
I recently found this challenge on the forum, and found a great opportunity to up my character design skills. I will be posting all my Wips on here as part of the rules for the contest.
For now my character backstory and a few influences:
Character: Horace Bennett
Age 59
Setting: 19th Century ,London England.
"Horace Bennett , an Englishman enlighten by the discipline of the plants, is a renowned name in the botanical world, primarily due to his discoveries of new species of plants.
Being very intellectual, when he heard of the the “Voynich Manuscript“, he automatically knew it hid information about his beloved plants, maybe a healing plant, maybe a poisonous one or maybe a very rare species.
After many sleepless nights attempting to decipher the manuscript as he expected, it provided him with information about a very rare species of plant only to be found at the very centre of the amazon Jungle, South America.
Being a botanist and not an adventurer, he thought to hire a expedition, but as the thought was formed it was immediately discarded, after realising the lack of coin on his pockets, all spent on whisky which served as a company horrendous nights being puzzled by the manuscript.
Now his only choice was to grab his botanical kit, disembark in Brazil and venture alone to the heart of the dangerous Amazon Jungle in search of this rare species of plants, which could make him some serious gold."
List of character Accessories:

Even though progress has been slow, I intend to have the character designed very soon.
I began exploring the characters body, did a few silhouettes to see which would portrait the characters personality, I will now add the details.
I particularly liked the 3rd and 5th silhouette, therefore I stitched them both together.
If you wonder the brown thing is going to be the rug sack on his back.
I then decided to choose the 6th drawing for the final face.
Meanwhile, I quickly created a influence map for the accessories that my character will carry.
As well as the character he will be carrying his companion, a HUGE wooden bag where he carries all his accessories.
I will be adding the final designs and move onto sculpting soon.
I have moved into finalizing the concept and trying the colours, so here it is Horace Bennett, renowned botanist but a zero adventurer. hope he gets back to his whiskey!
I did a quick change on the overall body shape, to emphasize character proportions.
meanwhile when doing the final touches on the concept, I moved onto 3d and modeled a few props for his bag.
Then I went on and sculpted the pants, they are on an initial stage.
Meanwhile the props are all unwrapped and put together.
After a few days out of sculptris, I came back and decided to carry on sculpting, I'm fairly new to sculptris therefore it is taking me longer to achieve the results I want.
For the sculpt , I'm opting to go a more stylized .
so far the progress:
the trousers still need a lot of work on the folds.
@alphajayel: Thank you.
I have been moving with the sculpture, the trousers were tweaked and finished now the rest of the accessories.
Onto the rest
