Maya 2014 Cursor Click Frustration

So I'm having an issue with Maya 2014 wherein I try to click on a edge/vert/etc that is directly beneath the tip of my cursor, and yet many times it select or preview selects an edge/vert/etc close by or beneath the bottom right corner of my cursor. I have no clue if this is just some strange setting that got checked, or a new feature of sorts with 2014, but its really frustrating doing...just about anything. Any thoughts?
