So, want just to give a quick overview what I'm working on. A few people asked for it.

All heavy work in progress... and only german weapons, Volkssturm, Wehrmacht, Schutzstaffel.

Everything is done with 3ds max box modelling and TurboSmooth modifier. Metal grey, wood / bakelite white.

If I have anything to update, new pictures will appear here.

Fantastic! Awesome that you're doing weapons that most of us have probably never seen before. I'm also focusing on WWII weapons but man yours look sweet. From your description I've understood you're not going to bake normal maps onto low poly versions? Still awesome stuff man. Looking forward to seeing them finished and more of them.

I'm just tired of the usual MP40/G43/Karabiner 98k stuff, that's all. There are many types of interesting weapons, but sometimes its really hard to get some pictures of them to create them right. All meshes are box modeled and TurboSmooth applied. I'm not a friend of floating geometry. Many details can be added with Photoshop or nDo on the normal map, so I don't care about patterns on grips or anything like that.

Everything is ready to bake, but I'm not planning to create a low poly for every weapon. Just having fun creating something accurate in 3D nobody modeled before. And I really take care about the details.

As always, I try to maintain all details except the things that can be done with nDo or dDo/Substance.

I wonder what material you use for your highpoly modeling- not the material for the renders, but for the modeling itself.

Which material? All materials you can see here are based and modified on MR Presentation MatLib, see http://www.polycount.com/forum/showthread.php?t=69829

Well, the barrel is honestly one of the easiest parts, compared to the system or other parts.

Build a cylinder with the amount of edges you need and create the holes in the size you need. In this case I used two Symmetry modifier because I used only a quarter of the cylinder to save work. The cylinder should have enough sides to create clean holes with at least 8 equal sides, otherwise the hole looks not clean enough.

The only problem is: If you like to build "rare" or "obscure" weapons its gets really difficult to get some pictures sometimes. Of "usual" weapons like the MP40 or the MG34 you get thousand of pictures, but looks for other MG81 or the MG13 and you will less than nothing. Last week I contacted someone who want $75 only for some pictures of the MG81 he owns. Currently I have some trouble building the ground use attachments for the MG81 because I have no really good pictures.... this sucks.

By the way the MG81 was a heavily modified MG34 only used by the Luftwaffe for airplanes and modified for ground use at the end of the war, also used by Luftwaffe soldiers.

FNA-B Mod.1943 or MASCHINE-PISTOLE P.M.43, the finest italian sub-machinegun ever made in 1943-1944.

Used by the Repubblica Sociale Italiana and the German Wehrmacht, only 7000 pieces made.

Still work in progress. Work shows the German model, not the Italien model. (two different versions exist, as far as I know)

Magazine, Buttstock and small pieces are still missing. WIP.

Just for myself, maybe with a higher purpose. Most of them exist only as Sub-D Version, no Low-Poly or anything. I just try to rebuild them in highest quality.

Pistola Mitra TZ-45, used by the Repubblica Sociale Italiana and maybe the Wehrmacht.

Only 6000 pieces made by Armaguerra Cremona from 1944-1945.

10, 20, 30, and 40 round magazines from the FNA-B 43 and MAB 38 were used.

Buttstock, bolt and some small details still missing.

Phenomenal!

I really like these weapons, the Germans had a lot of interesting pieces. Their machine guns and assault rifle specifically. The Luger was another interesting looking gun.

Just for correction: the last two sub-machine guns are of italian origin, both used by the Repubblica Sociale Italiana in 1943-1944. The only german weapon on this page is the MG81. But I have still some interesting German weapons in work.
