Hey everyone, been working on my portfolio for awhile now and I'm having a difficult time evaluating where I stand. Here is a couple of things I've been working on,some game assets some commercial. let me know what you guys think. Any feedback is appreciated.
Anyway that's a couple examples, most were rendered in Marmoset. Critiques would be awesome, where I can improve what I may have done right. Although I have been paid for my work and I consider myself a professional, I know there is a lot of room for improvment. But I would be nice to know what my fellow artists think, good or bad.
I like what you have there.
To the crits, assuming I open your website and see these 5 pics:
- The first two models could maybe benefit from some polishing, texture-wise.
Take the grenade for example, I like it, but it could be taken a level further with the textures. Maybe add some finer details, maybe bigger contrast between the metal and the "green lower part" (don't know the terms of the grenade parts, sorry ) etc.
- Also, what is the target of your portfolio? Do you target game companies or everyone? I am asking because, maybe specializing a bit more could be useful. The reason I say this is because, again, assuming that this would be your portfolio, to me there is no clear line of what exactly you do. But that could be just me.
- Go for more diverse content, regarding the topic of your work. If you want to focus on character art, do a couple of appealing characters. If you want to focus on environment art, do more of that. By adding more complexity, you show off way more of what you can do, which can help seal the deal with potential employers.
- IMO the "water enhancer" is not really a model you should have in your portfolio. It is the least complex piece you have and doesn't really show off your skill.
I hope that helped a bit. Good job and keep it up!
