Spider bite, that's shit. Dying's bad enough, knowing unearthly levels of pain before hand is infinitely worse.
it could potentially be related, anything that goes through your bloodstream goes through your liver and kidneys too, so it's possible that the facitis affected his internal organs in ways that were not immediately apparent.
I saw it yesterday when Eddie Trunk tweeted it but didn't see any news anywhere at first, so didn't know if it was true. Fast forward about 30 min and it all started popping up online.
Slayer was one of the most influential bands to me when I first started listening to metal. And I guarantee you that any extreme metal band that anybody enjoys and listens to today would not be the same without Slayer. Jeff was responsible for SOOOO many memorable riffs and songs, I really can't see them being anywhere near the same with only Tom and Kerry left in the band as originals now (after all that mess with Kerry and Lombardo).
Luckily I was able to experience Slayer live many times in the years, but it really sucks to realize that we won't ever see Hanneman back with them. Sad day for metal and music in general. And I say music in general because as extreme as they are, Slayer is one of those bands that is respected across genres.
Randy, Jimi , Dime and Jeff on guitars ............. Cliff and Clive on Bass with Bonham on drums ................. Layne Staley and Ronnie James on vocals..... NOW Thats One STRANGE band \m/ \m/.
