Ello guys
So we are doing this project at Hertfordshire University called Narasimha. Now its been changed to King of Demons and I thought its time to share some work that I did before its too late. You might have seen a similar thread laying around somewhere created by Dee, but I was not able to find it.
I am mainly responsible for rigging, character animation and VFX.
So this is the first animation sequence where he talks, gets up, stumbles upon an incense table then supernaturally jumps down the stairs and opens a massive door with his "force".

So for this sequence I reworked the cameras to remove the CG land feel to them, now I am quite happy with them behaving as simple as I would. And the character animation of course.
Next I will add head and body movement when he speaks and refine some skining problems around the Armour and maybe add a tongue as I am not sure if he will need one because the lighting should be quite dark, but we keep struggling with it so its not known. Eyes are still to come too. Clean up facial animation and add more expressions. Also rig a few environment pieces like the aladin lamp that hangs totally still and is just asking to to be swinged.

This is my attempt at creating a showreel. Was testing the shots and if soundtrack is working together with the footage etc. Smoke and incense thickness will get reduced and I want to add alpha erosion to it as well in the coming month. The weakest part is the winefalls and splash effects, I find fluids effects quite hard to build. Fires have been randomized and smoke is lit dynamically to the color of the fires through custom shading. I will randomize splash effects as well as they look very modular at the moment. I will add breakdowns and other stuff, not just finished product, but this is the general feel I want to go for.
I am not sure if I should try to combine character animation with VFX stuff in one showreel, I haven't seen that done before as the two disciplines come from quite opposite directions, but I am trying to bridge it in my work as I think VFX artist has to be a bit of everything.
Any feedback appreciated!

Remember, when making blendshapes it's always best to exaggerate each shape wider than you think you will use, so that way in the animation you always have some variance, and it doesn't look like each viseme is the exact same, which is the case here.
Oh sorry I forgot to mention that the mouth movement is just raw data from Faceware. Im going to spent a day working on the facial animation, cleaning up and exaggerating where needed. I noticed that the rig I build is quite limited so it wont be awesome, but next time I should make around double the amount of controls or ways to get more expressions.

Everything good in animset, but not in level. Kismet? http://i.imgur.com/T3yX7vn.jpg
as you can see, normal, manually placed fires run in the background, but not the candle flames that I have attached to each socket on the chandelier. maybe some settings in skel mesh properties that Im not seeing?

Mostly animation and a bit of VFX update
What do you guys think?
