Hey my name is Corey and I am a recent Capilano University Graduate. I am joining forums and building my list of studios so that I may grow as an artist and find some work in the industry.
I really like your self-contained scenes, but should the cloth on that table set be so high-res? It looks a bit overkill considering its only a bit of cloth.
Yeah, I left the turbo smooth on for that one. There's actually a bunch of places where I would have been a lot more efficient. In the future I plan to pay closer attention to such details.
10/10 for style. Really nice work, that is some excellent lighting there .
Few crits: I agree with Lloydyy89 about the table cloth though, especially compared to the parasol above it lol!
The white light in the middle of the cafe scene is way to bright you will want to tone it down a bit, especailly since the lamp-post on the right side has no illumination at all!
You might want to look at normal mapping for your roof tiles in the Back Alley scene or keep it in mind for next time, seems like a lot of geometry used up for individual tiles. (Looks good but if it was ever to be used in a game could be more efficient etc).
edit: You answered that question about the table cloth as i was writing this ^_^.
Hey Dubski, thanks for the feed back. Yeah the white light is a glow effect that changes based on angel and a few other things. I'm finding it hard to work with. And the roof tiles I completely agree with. Since these were my first environments I wavered between higher and lower poly cause I wasn't sure what the result would be. I definitely think of a more effective way to do it next time.
So a friend of mine suggested i do Zelda as the hero of a legend of Zelda game. Seems like a good project for a character. Here are some of the ideas I was playing around with.
Wow. Really impressiv style! Loving it!
(But I agree regarding the table cloth being to high poly, you should have done some retopo to reduce the polycount)
And I love those Zelda sketches! I'd love to see more progress on that!
