Hey all, we're a group of 6 students from De Montfort University, Leicester. We're taking part in the Off The Map project in association with Crytek, The British Library and Gamecity. Utilising Cryengine 3 we're building a section of 17th century London before the Great Fire.
First time we've used Cryengine, we've made a lot of progress since we started back in late February, will post some shots of where we're at now.
We wanted to post up on the Polycount community to get some much needed feedback, so we welcome any crits you guys might have for us!
We're coming close to our uni deadline, so for the most part the level is finished, but we have the summer to polish for the final competition submission. Will keep this updated as regularly as possible, cheers!
this is great! i love the offshore shot and the cemetary.
i think the one things that bothers me on it is the wood texture, right now it just seems too grainy and just too much noise, it holds up great at a distance but seems to be bring it down for the street shots expessailly on the last posted one. maybe post pics of some textures?
Cheers for the feedback.
Yeah I see what you mean about the wood, I think it is mainly the brown wood (like in the image above) The black wood is the better of the four I think
This is a huge scene! I remember reading about Crytek doing this. Nice to see one of the projects coming from it.
A few crits:
- The offshore shot really bugs me because of how close the boat is able to get to those houses. Was that it was back then? I'd hate to live there.
- Herringbone bricks used for walls?
- A lot of the textures look muddy. The wood textures that you posted have really blobby Normal maps.
Keep it up though. This looks like a fun one to work on
Cheers for the crits.
The boat in the previous pics was just a placeholder, they are much further off in the distance now!
As far as we can tell from the research and ref we've gathered they did have herringbone bricks for walls back then as far as we can tell.
Hopefully over the coming weeks we can sort out the muddy textures

Got some nasty normal seams on the pig that we can't seem (heh) to get rid of.
