Well I asked DoubleLeaf to make me a concept for a spirit breaker weapon, this is how far I'm currently at, still need to work on the textures and everything. But it's really hard to stay without the lod_1 budget because of the chain links. Let me know what you guys think!
You could always do just a double plane (one with flipped normals) for the chain links, one for each link. The loss of quality might not even be noticeable from the game cam.
So for the spehere in the center, the concept had the sphere dark-ish with a radiant white outline/rim. Unfortunately though, the particle effects for the staff get drawn on top of the geo so I had to switch it to a darking orb that glows bright white in the center.
If this get the seal of approval , I'll pretty up the images and get to postin'

There's an easier way that wil keep the volume but reduces the polycount.
You model the chain for the lod 0 as always. One link is 32 faces, seven link = 224 faces. After that, when you're doing lod 1 you can delete the inner faces and close the holes, this will bring the count to 12 per link and 84 for the whole chain.

I really like how it looks in-game. My only suggestion would be to add a bit of definition to the ribbon or a light gradient if UV space is low.

I went by Valve's example with the ribbon, they didnt add any definition to it, so I did the same. And to conseve UV space, it's literally a 20x20 pixel space with unified UVs. I agree, it kinda stands out in the 'pure' Maya viewport but I think it works well in game since it's such a small amount of screenspace and the faces are rarely parallel to the camera plane.

Also Finished both lod versions, even without changing the chains it wasn't that hard to get the lod_1 done. Just needed to change the UV layout slightly so it doesn't deform when removng faces.
Well it's been a while, didn't had any possibility to go ahead with the texture. But I finially managed to get my tablet back and start working on it. This is an ingame test for the model, the texture still needs some work though.

Ooh, nice! I'd say it's quite tricky to make weapons for Pudge that stand out, but these definitely do. If I weren't utterly useless as Pudge I'd buy these! :poly124:

Whoa these are pretty damm incredible, if Afigal changes his mind i would be very interested in making them.
Have you considered concepting a full Pudge set to accompany these weps? could potentially be great and Pudge could sure do with a change of cloths.

Spudnik mentioned we needed a set to go with it, and I would love to make a complete set for Spirit Breaker, so If you have any spare time I say go for it and I will do the rest!
Sorry Thnk I didnt see your items in the workshop, I tend to look through submissions before I concept anything just to avoid any designs that might have been done already. It looks a little similiar in terms of that bottom horn, if it really bothers you alot I can talk to vlad and see what we can do?

Small update I made a promo omage for vlads new Ursa Armor set and A new alchemist concept for Tidal Craftsman, I so behind on work I still need to finish stuff got Andy, Spud, Frump, and Lennyagony. I wish I was faster!

Sweet! Practice pieces are always welcomed. I would say you nailed the base mesh with some collapsing of your edges it could be a really great low poly too, Are you sculpting or SubD ing the mesh to get your normal. That along with the texture will make it easier to crit.
Hey, thanks! I'll keep that in mind and keep working on it, I'm going to sculpt it in Mudbox or maybe try zbrush (haven't learnt it yet) and I'm gonna attempt to handpaint the texture soon, so more feedback will be welcome

I was thinking that a bit seeing the CK weapon. The quality of the concept is great but it didn't look like a CK weapon to me really. It was so reminiscent of the Luna weapon and the Drow bow the way the curves are shaped and just colored to match CK.
I know that you're pushing a very distinct style into all of your items, double leaf - it's easy to pick out anything in the workshop or game that you've designed, but it may be time to expand on things a bit. Always love your stuff, I'd be excited to see what other directions you can move it.
Definitely agree with reverendK! Sometimes your style works fantastically like with the drow bow but sometimes it can feel a bit out of place like with the CK weapon. And I for one, would be excited to see you push your comfort zone a little bit (which is definitely one of the hardest things to do) ^^

Anyway heres an invoker helm I did for Tidal Craftsman.
I like what u did with the eye area and secondary tusk thing though.
I wanted it too kinda like he took scales and stuff off of Roshan to craft himself some armor. So yeah it's heavily roshan inspired XD
